Abundant Intelligence
The moat of information scarcity is drying up for companies across the globe. What once was a huge barrier to entry for competitors to “get up to speed” is being torn down in a post AI economy. Further, many of the old business structures to manage and protect this data, is resulting in friction for legacy companies trying to take advantage of AI.
Let me make this basic and clear.
New competition is going to use AI to create competitive services or products that will be high-quality. At very low cost.
Existing companies have siloed data stores, layers of complexity, and systems that don’t talk. Young companies will be AI native and will build without that friction.
I’ve seen this with my own company and in my own industry. What I can tell you is this… If your competitive advantage is your people and your brand, AI is going to take you to new heights. If you are already struggling with margin because of “price”; you will need to adapt quickly.

Top 3 Shifts Your Company Should Consider Now
Stop hoarding data, start operationalizing it.
IT leaders are still playing defense when it comes to data (storage, backups, compliance), but you need an offensive strategy too. That idle data needs to be turned into decisions. An abundance mindset starts with realizing that unused data has a cost. It’s like putting your money in a zero interest investment strategy, there is an opportunity cost to idle data. This one strategy will unlock wealth in your organization.
Kill the “single source of truth” obsession.
This is a contrarian idea, but hear me out. With abundant, cheap data pipelines, you don’t need one perfect dataset anymore. You need fast, good-enough answers pulled from multiple sources in real time. Perfection is the enemy of speed in this scenario.
Build an “insight on demand” culture, not a reporting culture.
I am making most established organizations’ skin crawl right now. Reports are the lifeblood of board rooms, but reports take a snapshot in time. Further, while the data doesn’t lie, reports are notorious for not telling the whole truth. Nirvana is being able to question your data through natural language.
Scarcity Management - Flipped
For the last twenty years CIO’s have been managing scarce resources - controlling access to expensive compute, guarding hard to collect data, and building infrastructure to reduce the bottleneck. Abundance shows us that information is cheap, compute is getting cheaper, and AI can beat a team of analysts.
This represents a huge culture shift and a mindset that boards are going to have to adopt to stay relevant. CIO’s today should be preparing their teams for this change and more importantly building systems for the dawn of abundance.
Bottom line, CIO’s should stop optimizing for “having information”, and start optimizing for “acting” on information faster than anyone else. Those CIO’s will be the leaders in a transformative and abundant new world.
